Japanese Flyers
Considering how many cultures share NYC, it's remarkable that 99% of the stuff that I find is in English. Here are a couple of postings that make up the other 1%. I have no idea what they say.

Juggling Lessons
I found this right outside my apartment on 11th Street. That's perfect because I need a trainer for the upcoming Eccentric Triathlon. Now if I can only find someone to coach me in the unicycling event.

USSA Hillary
Calling Democrats commies seems like something that would have ended with the Cold War but here it is, this time directed at Hillary Clinton.
As the Senator from New York, Hillary hasn't done anything radically leftist. In fact she hasn't made any sudden moves that could harm her chances at presidency. She even voted for the Iraq War when it seemed politically expedient. In that way, she is very much like the leaders of the former USSR, more interested in accumulating and holding onto power than in fostering a revolution.
If you hate Hillary, you can download this poster, and other anti-Hillary posters at unsavoryagents.com.
Rob found these in Los Angeles.

Ron Paul For President
I posted before about a dollar bill with a Ron Paul message on it. Now his campaign has stepped up to flyers.
The media would like to paint him as a kook but his views aren't that weird. They're just an odd combination of Democrat and Republican positions: "He believes in socialized medicine and Government medical coverage for All" and "Is strongly against big government and believes the government should let Citizens run their own lives."
As of this writing, Ron Paul has 6 delegates. That's 2 less than Fred Thompson and 4 more than Rudy Giuliani.

1040WAR
I got this from a group of super lefties that are out in Union Square every weekend protesting Israel's treatment of the Palestinians.
This flyer protests the enormous defense budget, specifically how much the U.S. spends on Israeli and their military. You can see a full-size copy of the flyer with all it's facts and figures here.
In a city with a larger Jewish population than Jerusalem, these demonstrations always attract an angry response from passers by .

Who Are We?
While in Williamsburg this weekend, I found this pr display put on by a real estate development company on Bedford Avenue. Developers aren't looked on favorably anywhere in NYC but they are especially scorned in Williamburg, an area poised to go from hipster central to condoburg if the developers have their way. The purpose of this display is to build neighborly good feelings, starting with the question, "Who are we?"
The adjacent window responds with answers that try too hard:
We are your neighbor
We bring our kids to play at the playground
We wait an hour for really good mac n cheese
We know all the drink specials in town
We stroll around Bedford on a Sunday afternoon
We are standing next to you on the L-train
Really, who waits an hour for mac 'n' cheese, except for a yuppy ready to spend $12 on a plate of food that costs pennies to make? Those little white rectangles are stickers that a local added to answer the question:
We pretend to be like you
We are a nightmare
We are rapacious developers
We are boutique shoppers
We don't have day jobs
We own designer dogs
We trade hedge funds
We are Eurotrash
We care about fancy bathrooms
We care about doormen
Not that any of this will prevent the spread of fancy bathrooms and doormen through Williamsburg. Like I wrote in the Defend Brooklyn post, real estate development is part of NYC. So is moving.

The Flyer King
You would expect someone who calls himself The Flyer King to have a great flyer. Not only is it awkwardly designed, it makes claims that aren't true:
"Flyer advertising is the most effective way to increase your business."
Not if you're a doctor, lawyer or Mercedes dealer.
"The POWER of exposure will triple your operation in no time."
Triple? Where does that number come from? And how long is no time? This statement is somehow vague and inaccurate at the same time.
Lastly, Dan refers to himself as "the flyer man." He can be either Dan the flyer man or Dan the flyer king, but the title has to be consistent.
I doubt that this flyer will triple his operation in no time.

Do You Love The L Train?
When I was reading the story behind Love Bound Train, it reminded me of a flyer from deep in my archives, one that I had collected but not posted. This is the flyer that launched the project. From the "hello" page on the site:
We put up 1,000 flyers along the L train line in NYC with the direct phone number to the love train suggestion hotline. We recieved over 700 calls ranging from love poems to death threats directed towards the train.

Hello Resolver
Part of a promotion for the Love Bound Train, a Brooklyn-based arts project.
When winter comes, the flyer population thins and I was wondering if the changing face of New York was also part of the dearth, but this proves that many creative people still live here. NYC isn't uninteresting yet, merely less interesting.
