Stop War On Iran
How lefty is this movement? On the back of the flyer is a list of organizations who endorse this march. Along with Queers for Peace & Justice and FIST - Fight Imperialism Stand Together is Millions for Mumia. The mention of Mumia's name is the tip-off that we're in far left field.

Iraq Out Now - Part 3
So whoever was putting these things up around Washington Square Park last year is also responsible for the tiny "Iraq Out Now" stickers.Found on the fence of St. Mark's Church.

The Campaign Against Scientology
Someone has it in for Scientology. Through the websites whyweprotest.net and xenu.net , and now fliers, the enemies of Tom Cruise are waging an info war on the house that L. Ron Hubbard built. I found all three of these around Union Square in a week.

Trees Slaughtered By The Bloomberg Administration
The verb slaughter is usually used with animals and sometimes people. It doesn't go with trees. Also, trees lost the Battle of New York centuries ago and you can't single out Bloomberg as the guy responsible for their absence in the urban landscape. He's the guy that fought so hard for congestion pricing, a way of deterring driving in the city which would have done more to improve the air than planting trees.

A Salute To Women's Resistance
Of all of the statements on this poster, the one that is so left wing is "No Police I.C.E. Terror." I.C.E. stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Only a super leftie would think that enforcing the laws that govern our borders is terror. Imagine their outrage that women have to stop at traffic lights. No justicia! No paz!Found on University Place.

End The War
Bringing the troops home won't end the war. It won't stop the killing either. The solution to this problem won't fit on a poster.Found in L.A. by Rob.

Stand Up Against Martial Law
Washington Square Park is undergoing renovations right now with the center of the park behind a chain link fence while they move the fountain to be in line with the arch and bring it up to street level. The biggest change to the finished park will be a four-foot-high fence that will be locked at night.I don't see how any of this amounts to corporate rape or martial law. Lots of city properties are closed at night. We don't live in a police state merely because they close the libraries at night.

1040WAR
I got this from a group of super lefties that are out in Union Square every weekend protesting Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. This flyer protests the enormous defense budget, specifically how much the U.S. spends on Israeli and their military. You can see a full-size copy of the flyer with all it's facts and figures here.
In a city with a larger Jewish population than Jerusalem, these demonstrations always attract an angry response from passers by .

Who Are We?
While in Williamsburg this weekend, I found this pr display put on by a real estate development company on Bedford Avenue. Developers aren't looked on favorably anywhere in NYC but they are especially scorned in Williamburg, an area poised to go from hipster central to condoburg if the developers have their way. The purpose of this display is to build neighborly good feelings, starting with the question, "Who are we?"
The adjacent window responds with answers that try too hard:
We are your neighbor
We bring our kids to play at the playground
We wait an hour for really good mac n cheese
We know all the drink specials in town
We stroll around Bedford on a Sunday afternoon
We are standing next to you on the L-train
Really, who waits an hour for mac 'n' cheese, except for a yuppy ready to spend $12 on a plate of food that costs pennies to make? Those little white rectangles are stickers that a local added to answer the question:
We pretend to be like you
We are a nightmare
We are rapacious developers
We are boutique shoppers
We don't have day jobs
We own designer dogs
We trade hedge funds
We are Eurotrash
We care about fancy bathrooms
We care about doormen

Not that any of this will prevent the spread of fancy bathrooms and doormen through Williamsburg. Like I wrote in the Defend Brooklyn post, real estate development is part of NYC. So is moving.

Leviticus - Part 14: The Artist At Work
Last Friday evening, the family and I needed to get out of the apartment so we went to the Starbucks at 2nd Avenue and 9th Street, not our usual location. While I was snagging a table, I noticed that, on the table next to us, there were what looked like Leviticus postings, mid-creation. A minute later, the face that I had seen on a few postings returned to the table. He had a large stack of typing paper, the words already written on them in Sharpie, and was going through a fashion magazine, cutting out pictures and taping them below the text.
I went out the next day, looking for one of his creations but couldn't find any. From what I saw, I think they were going to look like this:

Iraq Out Now - Part 2
This micro protest is only 2.5" wide. That's not enough room to present a cogent argument or even specify where Iraq needs to get out of. Iraq, maybe? If I were Iraq, I'd want to get out of Iraq.Found all over the Union Square area.

No Hate
As someone who hates, I often feel that I am in the minority. What's worse, I often find myself confronted by those who work to oppress me and crush my right to hate, loathe, detest, abhor and begrudge. Found on the Upper East Side.

Workin Hard?

The insinuation is that the have-nots work hard, haves don't and it's the latter who are getting richer.
As my father-in-law says, to go from nothing to $8 million is impressive. To go from $8 million to $30 million is inevitable.

Here's Irony For You
There's a big difference between George W. Bush and Ehren Watada. Bush weaseled out of combat duty without defying any direct orders. Watada just said no and that's something that the military can't allow. If soldiers get to decide whether they want to go to war or not then they'll be deciding who will be storming the beach, what time the bombardment starts and who gets to drive the tank. Anyone going into the military has to know that it's not a democracy. You obey orders and if you don't like them you have to obey them anyway. These were being handed out in Washington Square Park by Veterans for Peace.

Rebuild Us You Cowards

I don't think that it's lack of intestinal fortitude that's preventing anything from being built where the World Trade Center once stood. Even the site of a national tragedy is subject to the same real estate issues that effect any other plot of land in New York.
What I want to know is when those yellow-bellied weasels are going to do right by the victims of 1911 and rebuild the Triangle Waist Company Factory?

Parade Without A Permit
The Radical Homosexual Agenda has a problem with the city's parade permit rules. You can read all about their issues with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and New York's Finest on their website, but the gist of it is that they don't like it that The Man decides who gets to march and who doesn't.With a name like The Radical Homosexual Agenda you're just begging to have your permit denied.
